tacos de tofu

Benito’s Hat is a casual Mexican street food canteen, ideal when you are hungry and don’t have much time! The food is made freshly in front of you and just about everything can be swapped.
Although not a vegan eatery they are proud to be offering more vegan options and we were delighted to try them out. Benito’s Hat have also just launched the newest member of their filling familia – Jalapeno Tofu!
The perfect choice for vegans, the tofu has been gently sautéed in olive oil with oregano, bell peppers, red onions and to top it all off, it even comes with free guacamole. Why not try it as a burrito, a salad or even as the filling in their soft-shell tacos?
Available at all eight Benito’s Hat restaurants, including the newest site – Highcross Leicester.
An array of taccos and burritos and can be washed down with unusual Mexican style sodas – or Margaritas! We both went for a huge, fully packed vegan burrito and a few tacos on the side. Be prepared for big servings.
For something different to the usual beans on toast maybe try their re fried beans, pico, avocado on a corn tortilla for breakfast too.
We loved their re fried beans with veggies, rice, salsa verde, lettuce, pico, guacamole and lime soaked red onions – topped with freshly made salsa.
Benito’s Hat started with a small store in Goodge Street in London, lovingly conceived by Ben Fordham and Felipe Fuentes Cruz, our founders. Ben and Felipe were passionate about bringing simple, fresh Mexican food to the UK that was both authentic and modern.
VV TV says, “Great to see even more vegan choices being offered – and Mexican food is delicious. It would be even better to enjoy a vegan Mexican dessert too – they just have 3 desserts and they could all be “veganised” – this would make it an even better vegan destination!”
