16 million people in the UK suffer from sleep issues so over the coming weeks we are bringing you expert advice as well as reviews of some super products that may well help if you are one of these sufferers….

Leading UK Psychotherapist & Hypnotherapist Nick Davies shares some great tips too….

Wind down before bed, no TV, electrical devices or stimulation an hour prior.

“Your devices produce electromagnetic radiation which coupled with the adrenal stimulation you get from watching/reading what’s on them overstimulates your brain.”

So avoid using at least an hour before bedtime.

Make sure your bedroom is very cool before bedtime.

“When we sleep our body temperature drops as we become inactive in order to rest, and recuperate, so a warm room will make you hot and bothered.”

“If you really want to drop off more quickly blackout curtains or a sleep mask are essential! When natural light starts to fade our brains produce the sleep hormone Melatonin, which is produced in the pineal gland. It influences sleep by sending a signal to the brain that it is time to sleep, our muscles begin to relax, thoughts slow down and our body temperature drops.”

We check out some relaxing products too…..

Puressential – Popular French brand Puressentiel who create clinically proven essential oil remedies for sleep – has the answer for a peaceful night sleep with their Rest & Relax range.

We loved the products we tried out; “the smell is just wonderful! So relaxing!” The small roll on bottle is ideal to take around with you in moments of stress. Simply roll onto your wrists and breathe deeply.

The Rest & Relax range includes:

  • Rest & Relax Air Spray
  • Rest & Relax Food Supplement
  • Rest & Relax Bath & Shower Gel
  • Rest & Relax Organic Massage Oil
  • Rest & Relax Diffusion Blend
  • Rest & Relax Stress Roll on

Their Rest & Relax range will help you unwind from a busy day and prepare you for a blissful night sleep.

Scent is incredibly potent because it is the only sense which is linked directly to the limbic system — the part of our brain which activates our most fundamental behavioural and emotional responses. This explains why some essential oils are so calming, and others highly stimulating – the action is dependent on the hormonal responses the oil activates.

Puressentiel uses only the most organic and natural ingredients such as Roman Chamomile, True Lavender, Sweet Marjoram, Neroli, Green Mandarin, Sweet Orange and Palmarosa.

Olverum Bath Oil

Now we are fans of this incredible bath oil here at VV TV and our reviewer fell in love using it in her bath. “The smell is incredible, I have never had a bath with such a stunning aroma before! Just fallen in love TBH!”

Since 1931, the rejuvenating effects of Olverum oil have acquired an almost mystical reputation among its users. We don’t believe in magic, but we do know that Olverum’s unique formulation of carefully selected plant extracts, each with their own traditional therapeutic properties, is a truly relaxing and uplifting experience for body and mind.

Olverum offers a luxurious way to unwind, soothing aching muscles, relieving stress, and promoting a restorative sleep that can help revive a tired immune system. Enveloping you in its intoxicating unisex fragrance, Olverum is a sumptuous indulgence that leaves your skin silken, your mind calm, and your body refreshed.

A unique and luxurious aromatic blend of essential oils which combine to ease stress and relax tension in both mind and body, bringing you back to your complete and natural self.

Olverum Bath Oil is highly concentrated and only half a capful (5ml) is needed per bath. Accordingly, virtually all the oil is absorbed by the skin leaving no greasy residue in the bath after use.

Westlab

Our reviewer loved this product. “Just a big handful of these sleep salts is all you need in the bath and it goes a long way. I felt quite relaxed afterwards – more than usual.”

Encouraging its users to add a regular bathing ritual to their nightly routine, the Westlab SLEEP salts create a fragrant, mineral-infused bath that signals to the body that it’s time to sleep and prepares the mind for a peaceful night ahead. Containing magnesium from Epsom and Dead Sea Salts to relax the mind and body, jasmine and lavender essentials oils to calm and soothe and valerian to promote peaceful sleep, a bath in SLEEP bathing salts will leave bathers ready for a deep, restorative night’s sleep.

Ellia’s Wind Down Lotion

Created to inspire restful sleep, this essential oil blend combines notes of lavender, vetiver, and clary sage to soothe your senses and ease your mind. It’s a favourite to use before bedtime, as it helps you relax and release emotional tension. All of Ellia’s signature blends (including Wind Down) are crafted by an aromatherapy expert using only 100% pure essential oils.

We loved adding a few drops to our pillow to breathe in during the night. The smell is lovely and long lasting.

And Ellia recommends adding 5-7 drops of the Ellia Essential Oil to your Ellia Oil Diffuser, rather than pouring directly onto one’s pillow. This is to avoid direct contact with the skin and breathing in vapours.

FutureYou

A magnesium deficiency can cause tiredness and fatigue – as well as a whole host of issues including muscle twitches and cramps and mental health disorders . Although many vegan foods contain magnesium including wholewheat, spinach and dark chocolate it may well be worth looking into supplements too. Future For You is a science-backed health supplement company based in Cambridge and they tell us some more….

The Magnesium from FutureYou is a mineral which contributes to many important functions in our bodies. Unfortunately, many of us don’t get enough magnesium from our diet. “Our highly bioavailable magnesium lactate formulation has been shown to be twice as absorbable as magnesium oxide. This means you will absorb the optimum level of magnesium and reduce the chance of any side effects such as diarrhea and constipation which larger quantities can cause.”

Not only does magnesium contribute to reduced tiredness and fatigue, but it contributes to your normal energy-yielding metabolism. Additionally, it contributes to normal muscle function, the normal functioning of the nervous system, the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, and even contributes to normal psychological function.

We are trying out the supplement here at VV TV – it is early days however it is something we are excited to be trying out.

More advice to follow too…… we hope it may help you with some sweet dreams 🙂
