How To Freeze Squash

Learn how to perfectly freeze your butternut squash for use in soups, salads and sandwiches. The key is to chop and blanch your squash before freezing. Get it right with this guide.

You will need:

  • 1 butternut squash
  • ice

Step 1: Slice The Squash

Slice your squash into 3 pieces. Use a knife or peeler to remove the skin. Chop the squash into chunks. Scoop out the seeds from the center.

Step 2: Blanch The Squash

Add the butternut squash to a pan of boiling water for 5 minutes. Remove the squash from the pan and place into a bowl of ice water. Leave for 5 minutes in the ice water.

Step 3: Place In the Freezer

Remove the sliced squash from the ice water. Put the squash into a bag, press the air out of the bag and place in the freezer. Done.
