Barley is a delicious healthy grain, and a nice alternative to rice or lentils. In this step by step guide Karin Ridgers from Veggie Vision shows you how to cook barley without it getting gloopy.

You will need:
  • 17 1/2 oz barley

Step 1: Wash The Barley

Put 500g barley into colander and wash it, then tip it into a saucepan. Use cold water and fill the saucepan a third of the way up.

Step 2: Cook The Barley

Bring the pan to the boil, then pour the barley into the colander and wash it again. Put it back into the saucepan, pour in fresh water and boil for 1 hour. Drain it, then serve.
