Whisking up your own products at home couldn’t be easier! And we know as we have enjoyed making several Cosy Owl products ourselves here at VeggieVision TV. They are fun to make and are also perfect for a personalised gifts too.
Getting creative can make you happier, according to a BBC survey which revealed craft activities can block out stress and anxiety, help build self-esteem and can put people in a headspace to reflect on their problems and emotions.
Below we have 5 super recipes for you – how to make your own vegan: Shampoo Bar , Hand / Body Butter, Hair Treatment, Body Soap, Hair Treatment, Body Soap and Hand Soap.
Shampoo Bar Recipe
Shampoo bars are an eco-friendly shower choice and there are lots of natural benefits when it comes to making your own.

What you will need:
- 1kg Shampoo Base
- 50ml Fragrance Oil
Step 1 – Start by cutting your soap base in half (you can use the other half another time).
Our Stephenson Melt & Pour Certified Organic Soap Base – 1kg is vegan friendly.
Step 2 – Cut your base into small pieces and put in a heat-proof jug or bowl.
Step 3 – Place the bowl in the microwave and heat until the small pieces have become liquid.
Step 4 – Once liquid, add the 50ml of fragrance oil and mix thoroughly.
Step 5 – Pour the liquid into your silicone mould and place it into the fridge to harden.
Hand / Body Butter
Whether you prefer to buy your body butter from your favourite retailer or perhaps want to try something totally new, we have you covered when it comes to making your very own, natural hand and body butter recipe!

What you will need:
- 150ml Unrefined Shea Butter
- 100ml Coconut Oil
- 50ml Jojoba Oil
- 50ml Castor Oil
- 50ml Fragrance Oil
Step 1 – Add 150ml of unrefined shea butter, 50ml jojoba oil, 100ml coconut oil and 50ml castor oil to your double boiler and mix thoroughly.
TIP: To create a double boiler at home, fill a pot about 1/4 full with water until it boils. Then reduce the heat to a simmer and fit the bowl into the pot – the same method used to melt chocolate.
Step 2 – Once combined, you should add 5 – 6 drops of water and mix it well into your other materials.
Step 3 – Now add 50ml of (chosen) fragrance oil and mix together.
Step 4 – Pour into a heat safe container and place in the refrigerator. Take it out and whisk thoroughly every 10 minutes.
Step 5 – Once thickened, it is ready to put into its container. Either pour into your container or, pour your mixture into a piping bag and pipe the cream mixture into your container to create a pattern on top.
Hair Treatment Recipe
You can create a nourishing hair treatment quickly and easily at home with three simple steps. Why not apply your treatment to your hair whilst relaxing in a hot, bubble bath!

What you will need:
- 150ml Coconut Oil
- 50ml Jojoba Oil
- 50ml Castor Oil
- 50ml Fragrance Oil
Step 1 – Pour 150ml of coconut oil, 50ml of jojoba oil and 50ml of castor oil into your double boiler on a very gentle heat.
TIP: Did you know that jojoba oil is full of vitamin C, B and E, copper and zinc? It can also help with dandruff, hair loss and promote general hair thickness as well.
Step 2 – Add 50ml of fragrance oil; mix it thoroughly and turn off the heat.
Step 3 – Once cooled, pour into your container and store in the refrigerator until cool.
Body Soap
Nourish your skin with a homemade body soap leaving your skin soft and clean – plus you can choose whichever fragrance you like.

What you will need:
- 750g Soap Base (vegan friendly)
- 50ml Fragrance Oil
Step 1 – Start by cutting your soap base into small pieces, and place in a heat-proof jug or bowl.
Step 2 – Then place the bowl into the microwave and heat until this turns to liquid.
Step 3 – Once it’s in liquid form, add the 50ml of fragrance oil and mix it thoroughly.
Step 4 (Optional) – Add your mica powder and mix thoroughly – mica powder gives a shimmer to the overall finished product.
Step 5 – Now pour into your silicone mould and place into the fridge to harden.
Hand Soap
With so many hand soaps available out there, it can be tough to know what quality is right for your skin. The great thing about making your own is you will know what you’re putting into the soap, and it will be clear to see if that suits you.
What you will need:
- 250g Soap Base
- 100ml Fragrance Oil
Step 1 – Start by cutting your soap base into small pieces, and place in a heat-proof jug or bowl.
Step 2 – Place in the microwave and heat until liquid.
Step 3 – Once in liquid form, add 50ml of fragrance oil and mix thoroughly.
Step 4 (Optional) – Add your mica powder and mix well into your other materials.
Step 5 – Pour into your silicone mould and place into the fridge to harden.
