VegfestUK Brighton 2012

VegfestUK Brighton 2012 – it’s all about healthy options

The dates for one of Europe’s biggest vegetarian events have been announced – and Brighton is set to host an expanded two day show on March 17th and 18th 2012 at The Hove Centre as thousands of veggie friendly consumers descend upon the town for the festivities.

Highlights of the show – which is FREE to the public – include a Ready Steady Cook competition which sees some of Brighton’s top chefs pit their skills against veggie specialists to create the most innovative plant based meal inside 30 minutes, with the audience acting as judges. There’s also a Best Veggie Sausage competition including blind tastings by our panel of judges, as well as a mix of films, veggie cookery demos, entertainment, music, performance, talks and product presentations.

And with over 100 stalls at the show each day, including a number of veggie specialist caterers, visitors will be spoilt for choice at this lively and fun filled event.

‘Its all about providing people with healthy options’ says Tim Barford from VegfestUK, the organisers of the event. ‘For a long time now the veggie diet has been associated with a healthy lifestyle, and more and more people are looking for decent plant based options that are low in additives salt, sugar and saturated fats – what better place to find them than at VegfestUK Brighton, which sees over 100 stalls all crammed with the latest vegan products and information, a lot of which is free. And of course entrance is free to the public, and we are expecting large crowds of around 5,000 over the weekend. It’s an ideal opportunity for people from all backgrounds and dietary persuasion to come down and try some of the latest vegan products for free.’

The 2011 show saw over 3000 visitors attend the one day show, and with the expansion into 2 days there is increased room for more talks, cookery demos and entertainment, as well as the Ready Steady Cook competition. ‘We tried the Ready Steady Cook idea earlier in 2011 during Bristol Fringe week, and it went down a treat,’ explains Tim the organiser, ‘and with the level of interest in all things veggie in Brighton, we are expecting big things from our Brighton Chefs as they bid to outdo the veggie experts during the competition, which runs over the two days.’

The show opens at 11am and shuts at 6pm both days. You can find out all about the event by visiting the website www.brighton.vegfest.co.uk
